 From the Ohio State Representative
Well greetings my friends, my fellow COHT members. I hope this post finds you and yours healthy and well. I know some of you are going through some health issues, let me assure you that I hold you each in my thoughts and prayers. Well here we are and the year is almost at a close. I hope you have been out and about and on some treks or resting beside a fire at some event. I hope to hear about each of them if you so honor me with such regails. While we are talking of new things, how do you like this new issue? Let us know what you like and dislike, so we can work on it together. I do hope to see more submissions from you for our newsletter. I would also like to congratulate and welcome our "NEW" Vice Prseident... Veronica Weise. The fingernail chewing and dreadful wait has come to a close. The membership has saw fit to elect you, and I am confident that you will do your best to fulfill the obligations and meet the needs of the membership. You have my support, and I look forward to serving the COHT in any way the membership feels I should. Congratualtions once again.
A lot has been going on in the COHT, both positive and negative. J.P. Finn has resigned as the Membership director. We all got to know J.P. from the events at the C.C.P.V., I would like you to join me in offering J.P. a well deserved "Huzzah!" for his years of dedication and service, his insight and thought, his friendship... and putting up with our complaints and issues. "Huzzah!" J.P., we thank you. We also wish you and your family health and good fortune. His resignation under such things is understandable. This resignation how ever left a empty position not only in our executive board, but in the process of issuing new membership cards and uptodate member information. This has caused some over looking of members who were new to our COHT, as well as some that have renewed. Through a bit of struggle, and some complaining emails... they have been identified and the problems being dealt with. Miki Nelson has stepped in to fill in for the Membership Director on a temporary basis. Thanks to those of you that volunteered as well to help out. Its members like that, that make a differance in the COHT. But if you still have not recieved your new membership card, please let me know. We as well, have experienced a late issue of the "The Time Traveler's Gazette". This being partly due to the resignation of J.P. as well. Be assured that myself and Governor Covert, as well as the Executive Board are working towards fixing this issue. We have also been experiencing changes to the COHT Web site. Dan is in the process of moving the site to a new server. This takes time and sometimes issues arise. Dan and myself are doing our best to deal with these issues as they arise, working together. But realize that we can not help you or fix a problem that we do not know about. If you do not inform us of issues of publications that you are not getting, or not getting your new membership card, or can not get into the message boards or website... or just plain have a issue with something, how can you expect us to deal with it - if you do not inform us? I have never turned away any of you when you brought a issue to me, so if you feel the need to hang up on me or chew me out when you finally let me know there is a problem and I spend my time contacting you personally to help deal with it... than I am sorry. But I can not help you, if you do not inform me and give me a chance to address the problem. I do my best to help you all with issues presented to us, in keeping you informed, in keeping the channels of communication and planning open, ensuring you get the most out of the COHT. But I need your support and input, and cooperation at times as well. Maybe I have failed you? Maybe I have failed to encourage you to participate?
I remain dedicated to the "Purpose and Ideals" of the COHT. We are all human, and have issues that must be dealt with from time to time. What makes a differance is how we deal with them. Its easy to quit and give up, surrender to the issue. Its harder to stick with the course, to ban together and cooperate and resolve the issue. So I call on you, to consider why you joined the COHT. Ask yourself... "Am I doing and giving all that I could be to bring something to the COHT? Am I participating?" I call on you to attend one of our planned events, we have a few on the message boards. If you can not attend, join us on the message boards or write a article or story and submit it. Submit it in written hand letter form or call me. Share something with us.
We have a canoe trip planned. We also have a Squirrel Trek planned for October 7-10. The Early Muzzle Loader Season Trek is planned for October 22-28. We will have Ohio COHT members in attendance at the Prickett's Fort event on October 29-31. A bow hunt trek is planned for November 8-14. There is also some talk on the Ohio members Message Board (now found with inside the COHT Members site) of yet another canoe trek. We are as well talking of a Ohio COHT Meeting event at Ceasar's Creek Pioneer Village, again in February. We held a meeting there this past February... the attendance could have been better. But for those that showed, we had a grand time. Great food and drink, and Ken Ashcraft graced us with the most beautiful music most of us have heard in a while. We are still looking for his CD or cassette. We had some great prizes, and even made it into the woods for some tactical games. Hopefully I will meet you there this next spring. It's a opportunity for you to express your ideas and thoughts regarding the Ohio COHT and the COHT in general. I will hear your complaints and your ideas, and you can assist in planning some events for us. This way the word of the event is out in time for everyone to plan time off, or help you work out issues in the planning. Maybe you would just like to meet and get to know other members, eat good food and drink fond drinks. Either way, I hope to see you there. More details will be posted and passed on as they come available.
Dan has created a new "Public Message Board" that may be accessed through the main page of the COHT website. It does require a "new" and "seperate" username and password. These are easily obtained through the simple login and register process. Becareful... the logins are case sensative. Please read and follow the posted rules and guide lines.
I will be starting a monthly contact with you the member to further keep our members more informed of situations, changes, up coming events within the COHT and the state of Ohio. Most often it will just be a letter type format called "Frontier Proclamation", trying to keep in feel for what we do. I am open to sugestions. It may be a phone call from time to time as well. Remember, you as a member are welcome to call me also... communication goes two ways. I will also practice this with our neighbors to the West... Indiana.
Well, that's about all I got for now. I hope to see you around some of these planned camp fires.
Your most humble servant,
Dave McGee

Greetings to all. My name is Ed Robey. I am the CoHT State Representative for the state of West Virginia. Members, I am having yet another contest, that is still going on. In this contest which will be decided by the member who submits the most trek stories to my quarterly. It can be a day trek, weekend or week long trek... but it must be done in period fashion. You may also submit pictures of your trek along with your story. I would like to thank those that have submitted in the past for their support, and I look forward to new supporters in the future. Again, thank you.
While I have your attention I would like to encourage you all as COHT members to attend the 2004 Eastern, and visit the COHT table and event. I will be hosting a over night trek event and encourage you to participate. I look forward to meeting fellow COHT members as well as new like minded people. Now lets get trekking!
Ed Robey
