A Message from your Editor

Hallo the camp! I want to thank those of you that took the time and contacted me and sent in submissions for the newsletter. With out you, our newsletter would not be what it is. I welcome any submission from the members of Ohio and encourage you to submit something to the newsletter through the next new year that is approaching us. If we all did our small part for the COHT, we could really do something.

So take the time and send in a photo or a small write up of your hunting trip, your day trek, your project, a rendezvous you attended, a recipe, a trek story, or even if you would like to voice your opinion and thoughts about what we are all about. I will do this by myself with or without you... but sure would be grand if we all did a little something.

Your Humble Servant,
Dave McGee

From the Ohio State Representative

Well greetings my friends, my fellow COHT members. I hope this post finds you and yours healthy and well. I know some of you are going through some health issues, let me assure you that I hold you each in my thoughts and prayers. Well here we are and the year is almost at a close, only a few more days. I hope you have been out and about and on some treks or resting beside a fire at some event and have made meat. I hope to hear about each of them if you so honor me with such regails.

With the Harvest Feast quickly appraoching, I would like to take this time, and wish each and every one of you... a safe, and joyous Holiday Season, may the new year be bountiful and fruitful for you and yours - from all us here in the McGee homestead, Happy Holidays!

Here we are friends, a whole new year with a fresh start and new beginning. With that comes a fresh calendar... so lets ponder some trekking events and a few hunts, maybe a canoe trek. I hope to see you all at the Ohio COHT Meeting at Caesar's Creek (CCPV) this February 25-27th, 2004. I hope we can discuss a trek or two into the Hocking Hills area, maybe a canoe trip on the Potomac River, a member mentioned maybe the Big Bottoms. What ever your idea is, lets get to together and see what we come up with. I will make myself available to handle any issues that you may present and are willing to discuss. Everyone that attended last year has a good idea of how we handled it and seemed to have a good time. We will have more of the same with a few additions. So bring yourself on out and have some fun with us.

I want to take this time and let you all know that Ohio now has my undivided attention. A new State Representative was chosen or I should say volunteered, Steve "Preach" Preflatish has been appointed the new Indiana State Representative. I would like to thank him for stepping forward and volunteering for the fine state of Indiana. I did my best by them, but I know Preach will have no problem soon surpassing my accomplishments and filling in where I fell short.

I will be starting a monthly contact with you the members to further keep our members more informed of situations, changes, up coming events within the COHT and the state of Ohio. Most often it will just be a letter type format called "Frontier Proclamation", trying to keep in feel for what we do. I am open to sugestions. It may be a phone call from time to time as well. Remember, you as a member are welcome to call me also... communication goes two ways.

The election for the Membership Director is upon us as well. As you know, Miki (PA COHT), Wart (OH COHT), and myself have been nominated for this position and excepted the nominations so you will see all three of us on the ballot. You have until the 15th of December to cast your ballot either by mailing the ballot and having it post marked by the 15th or send a email by the 15th of December to Commdir@coht.org stating your vote clearly. Now remember, if you have a family membership, you and your spouse both have a vote, thats two seperate votes so be clear about that if you email your vote in and on your ballot as well. The members in Ohio have made me proud, and always have came through for me when needed... I thank you for that. So now I call on you again to vote your opinion and let yourself be heard. With a National election just out of the way I know this will sound redundant to most of you, but its true - its our COHT, and what it is and can be become is up to us. We can only achieve this if we all do our part and get involved. Get involved and cast your vote, make a differance. If you won't submit anything to me, than submit it to another state or even the TTG. But lets get involved.

Speaking of getting involved, if your on the World Wide Web... you may not know that they are discussing a increase in dues to offset the costs of our insurance and other things needed to run the COHT. We are all in differant situations, some of us working while others may have lost a job or had a reduction in income. Some of us are retired, some are ill and some are on the mends. I encourage you to contact me or the Governor or any other executive board member and discuss your thoughts on this, or any ideas that you may have. Its going to come down to what you think about the COHT, what it means to you, what do you draw from it. I have done my best to meet your needs and handle your situations as they became presented to me. I hope there is something that you have found in the COHT to encourage you to continue to support the organization. Maybe if we all take the time and think about what we have brought to the COHT as a individual and see where we can do something to help contribute to the organization. I have been to many events, not a single one was a bad experience... trying, but not bad. Sometimes I was alone and sometimes I had a trusted trail partner to share the experience with... but I can not point the finger because sometimes I had to miss a event or two myself. My point is to try and make it to a event or help plan one, get involved. I know we got some great members out there, so I know we can come up with some solution together.

Before I go, a member had a great idea for a good friendly competition between us, a mail in shooting contest. So be sure and check that out and join us for some fun.

Well, that's about all I got for now. I hope to see you around some of these planned camp fires.

Your most humble servant,
Dave McGee

From the West Virginia State Rep.
Near the homestead of the Prickett's, Prickett's Fort; Westover, WV

Greetings to all. My name is Ed Robey. I am the CoHT State Representative for the state of West Virginia. Members, I am having yet another contest, that is still going on. In this contest which will be decided by the member who submits the most trek stories to my quarterly. It can be a day trek, weekend or week long trek... but it must be done in period fashion. You may also submit pictures of your trek along with your story. I would like to thank those that have submitted in the past for their support, and I look forward to new supporters in the future. Again, thank you.

While I have your attention I would like to encourage you all as COHT members to attend the 2004 Eastern, and visit the COHT table and event. I will be hosting a over night trek event and encourage you to participate. I look forward to meeting fellow COHT members as well as new like minded people. Now lets get trekking!

Ed Robey
