I can… can-‘ou?

2006 National Gathering Report

Well the gathering is over and as I am writing I am still recovering from too much fun and too little sleep. On Thursday we set up camp and then several members from North Dakota, Missouri, and Kansas headed up river with our canoes and pirogues. We put in on the Missouri river from La Bonite park and floated down to a spot a couple miles up river from Ft. Osage where we camped for the night. What a great camp, weather was perfect, great fire on the beach, slept out under the stars. We left the next morning and arrived back at the fort before breakfast. There were many things to see and do from when we got back on through Sunday morning we had presentations on the Sante Fe Trade, what to carry in a pack, how to rig your blanket as a match coat, effective use of our website, and the Corps of Discovery. There was a tactical of sorts and of course there was the tavern. We stayed up until after two each morning singing songs, telling stories and sharing fellowship. There was a communal supper Sat. evening after the auction that raised over $2000 for the Coalition. We also had a celebration for Longarm’s anniversary featuring a period wedding cake made by our Vice President, Veronica Wiese. I found my late Christmas present for myself and others found many interesting trade items for themselves. Sunday morning a few of us Missouri members got together after breakfast and discussed some possible events for the next year. Thank you to all who were able to attend and a special thank you to all of you who helped in one way or another to make this the best attended and most productive National Gathering since we started hosting the event at Ft. Osage. Also a special thank you to Steve Wilson and the other Ft. Osage personnel for making us feel so welcome and opening the facility to us. Way too much happened for me to go minute by minute but it was a busy and wonderful time. There should be more reports in the TTG.

Membership Drive!

This from our Vice President Veronica Wiese;
Though they may not have "worked" too well in the past, we've decided to hold a membership drive for this next year and make it worth your while by awarding prizes for the largest number of new memberships. A new line has been added to our membership applications - a temporary one can be found at http://www.coht.org/app.jpg I'd like you to use this one AT LEAST UNTIL the app in the normal online area can be changed. This one can be printed out quite easily and given to prospective members to send in.

PLEASE REMEMBER - in order to have your referrals counted, the "Referred by" line MUST be sent in.Credit for a membership will be given and recorded by our membership director, Jim "Wart" Perkins for each PAID membership sent in with the “Referred by” section filled in.Dates of the membership drive will be from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007. Prizes will be awarded at the 2007. National Gathering. You won't need to be in attendance to win, though perhaps it will encourage you to show up in order to get it sooner. *grin*

Prizes are as follows:

For first place (minimum 15 memberships) - .45 cap lock (I'll get details, maybe photos for you as soon as I can.)For second place (minimum 12 memberships) – steel brazier (ditto)For third place (minimum 10 memberships) – hand sewn linen shirt (ditto)For fourth place (minimum 6 memberships) – 1 year CoHT membership For fifth place (minimum 3 memberships) – 6 month CoHT membershipIt's important that all prizes be awarded. Though I hate to reward for mediocre performance, however if our goals aren’t met, then the prizes will be awarded to those members with the largest # of memberships referred.Prizes (except for the free memberships) have been donated by members of the CoHT who wish to remain anonymous. Thank you my friends, and good luck!

Welcome to New Members Who signed on at the Fort.

Welcome Bob Dorian, Paul Clark and Trapper Killsmany. I’m sure I forgot someone so I’m sorry if I did. Due to construction I don’t have access to my work computer right now and it opens the files I need to see recent new members.
