Greetings
and hope this finds everyone in fine health, spirits and staying
cool, which is the major concern now a days. Haven’t decided
which makes me hotter, the weather or gas prices! Not a lot happening
hobby wise in the area except indoor activities. It sounds like
we are not alone in the dry sweltering heat, many summer events
all around the country have been cancelled due to the heat and
high fire danger. Spoke with Bryant(AR
rep) just the other day, he was getting concerned about a possible
fire ban for their area during the “Treerat Weekend” Same
thing happened last year but luckily some good rains showed up
just in time, hopefully the same for this year.
WHAT’S
GOING ON, have a couple additions to last issues listings that
sound like a lot of fun. As far as I know there are no changes
to the previous posted events. Member Marvin Woody has notified
me that all are welcome to attend the ODWC Wildlife Expo August
25-27, the Lazy E arena is practically
in his back yard.
August
13th 2006 is the opening premier of the new Mountain
Man Exhibit at the Museum of the Fur Trade in
Chadron
,
NE.
According to everything read and heard it is an excellent, finely
crafted and most welcome addition to an already great Museum, wish
I lived closer!
September
30 – October 1 Pioneer Days at the Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village
up this side of St Louis, do some research on this one with more
details to follow.
August
12 & 13 Tools and Technology of 1812 at historic
Ft.
Osage
, largest collection of period tools(1808) ever assembled at
Ft.
Osage
. Some of the
Kansas
and
Missouri
members are planning a float trip to the fort, similar to the trip

WHAT’S
NEW, the addition of a very fine and gorgeous Caywood Gunmakers 30
inch .54 caliber Game gun, the wood on this sweetie will make
you bug eyed! If she shoots a tenth as good as she looks the
deer don’t have a prayer. Very much look forward to getting
in some range time, work stinks, for break in and load testing
soon.
WHAT’S
OLD, well it’s not that old of news, just a few days, Bryant
and I made a road trip to Berryville the other day to pick up
the new rifle. It was a very enjoyable trip discussing CoHT info
and different area Fall events with
the ones we hope to attend, schedules sound plenty full. Had
a great time with Danny and Mike as usual, proves the old saying, “the
first liar never has a chance” lot’s of hunts were
revisited and plenty of talk on new ones. If you are ever in
the area of Caywood Gunmakers give
them a call and stop for a visit, you can learn a great deal
in a very short time about flintlocks.
ADVERTISEMENT,
with spending more time indoors now would be a good time to sort
thru the gear to decide what stays and what goes, let me know
if anyone has anything they would like posted in the newsletter
and members message board.
OUTDOOR
ACTIVITES, about the only thing that would be of any fun right
now would be some night fishing, if it was cool enough. It’s
been awhile since I’ve had a nice catfish tow around the
canoe, an eight pound blue cat took me for quite the cruise a
couple years ago. Dove season opens in just another month so
stock up on shells while they are cheap, without serious rain
by then the firelocks will probably stay home this season.
BOOK
REVIEW, as stated last issue several volumes are in progress,
seems lately the reading and research is all work related and
not on our hobby, do have a couple books on order though.
In
closing please stay cool, drink lots of water and if outdoors,
working or not, go slow and pay attention to what your body is
saying. Remember I’m the chairman of the AWDA society so “do
as I say not as I do”
